Summary
Terveystalo, a leading company in the healthcare sector, aimed to strengthen its climate ambition and align with the 1.5 °C trajectory through the validation of Science Based Targets (SBTi) and the development of a climate transition plan. While the company had a well-established sustainability program, it sought expert support to refine its greenhouse-gas (GHG) inventory, set credible emission-reduction targets, and define the actions and investments required to deliver on them.
We supported Terveystalo throughout the full process – from data readiness and scenario analysis to SBTi validation. Together, we established a robust and science-based decarbonisation pathway and a practical transition plan that integrates climate actions into strategy, investment planning, and operations.
Our approach
Our work began with a diagnostic review of the company’s existing GHG inventory to identify data gaps, boundary issues, and areas requiring refinement. Building on the improved data foundation, we assessed several target-setting scenarios, benchmarked against industry peers, and evaluated relevant SBTi methods and pathways. Each scenario was evaluated based on emission-reduction potential, feasibility of execution, and financial implications. Based on this analysis, we recommended a target structure that balances ambition, achievability, and long-term strategic alignment.
The transition plan was developed around key decarbonisation levers, such as fossil free energy sourcing, shifting to electric vehicles, supplier engagement programs, and product-related emission reductions. For each lever, we defined tangible actions and high-level timeframes for execution.
Key highlights & methods

Benchmarking against peer targets and SBTi methods and pathways
Scenario analysis of alternative reduction pathways and cost implications
Development of science-based target recommendations
Definition of emission-reduction levers and supporting actions
